How to plan your wedding at home | Jesse + Keel

Now more than ever, booking a wedding venue at the date and time you want seems near impossible. Because of Covid-19, a lot of weddings were re-scheduled last year, and many weddings were being delayed to 2022 or 2023. This madness has meant that some couples need to become creative and have their weddings at home. This is exactly what Jesse & Keel did for their wedding day in Brisbane in 2021 and there are lots of tips to learn from them.

Here I will talk about why this is one of my favourite weddings to shoot in Brisbane:

Wedding venue was set at the parents home, which had a beautiful, large and open backyard that allowed space for all the wedding activities, including the Wedding Ceremony, Wedding Reception, Wedding Bar & Drinks, Wedding Photo booths, and a Wedding Dance Floor.

The Wedding ceremony was held in the late afternoon, meaning that the sun is not the brightest, but still having that nice afternoon glow. The ceremony also had a beautiful natural wood and floral arbour that looked amazing as a backdrop during the ceremony, family photos and couple portrait photos.

The family photos and couple photos were scheduled during the sunset hour, which gave us the most amazing moody glow on photos. You can understand why it’s called Sunset Hour, or the golden hour.

As the sun went down, there was a beautiful reception setup with a courtyard light set up. Lighting at night time is so so so important to get that moody feeling in your pictures. We also brought a couple of professional lighting gears to improve the night light and create a special moody style for the photos.

ABOUT THE CATHEDRAL

In summary, make sure the timing of your wedding activities go along with the sunlight, have a beautiful backdrop and plenty of lights at night time.  Do this, and your photos will look stunning, after all, it is your big day – Covid style or not.
